Letter to Membership - Green Corn Feast 2008

There were many hands to make light work of this year’s very memorable Green Corn Feast celebration.

A very special ‘Thank You’ to Olive Morrison, mother of Gert Free, who happens to be our eldest member at 99 years young! In addition, I would like to thank all of our other elders who attended and enjoyed the spectacle of these children absorbing their culture like a sponge. The look on everyone’s faces was that of joy. The air was filled with Wyandot spirit!

Jane and Jim Nawrocki have shown exemplary input with their effort to make this event very special and different this year. You deserve the “thanks” of this Nation.

We had many cooks trying to tame a hot grill; Jim Nawrocki, Ron Lezotte, Karrie Morisette, and Dennis Warrow, to name a few. Yvonne Roll, Sharon Lezotte, and Brad Souva, along with several other helping hands, were manning the infamous ‘corn pot’.

Inside, we had Katie Mckee selling meal tickets; The Schmidtke family sold merchandise all day; and of course, Gert Free was there to help members with renewing their annual dues and answering questions about genealogy. Thank you everyone for your continued support to make this day successful!

An extra special acknowledgement and ‘Thank You’ to Dennis & Penny Warrow who spent countless hours making the drums for the children to decorate and personalize. ‘Thank You’ to Teddi Ann Whittaker for constructing the turtle emblems as well as creating the ITW Certificates and also to Jim and Suzie Souva for making and donating the drum sticks.

Our Second Chief, Ted Roll, had a helping hand in many things this year including cutting the drums, helping to build the arbor, he and wife Brenda made the hot beans, and for all of the help that Ted contributes to this event every year by being there early and setting up.

Jenine Ruiz made all of the regalia for the children to wear and take home. They will hopefully treat it with respect and bring it back, along with their drum, for next years celebration.

Karrie Morisette ran the childrens games and donated all of the prizes…Thank You!
Ernesto Ruiz hooked us up with a sound system…Thank You!
Jim and Cliff Gronda helped with the arbor and brought the corn pot on sight…Thank You!

Last but not least, the Letourneau family stuck around and helped with clean up…you have no idea how much we appreciate the help.

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone for being involved in this organization. Your efforts support the very existence and continuity of this Nation. Without your participation and support we are nothing!

If I have forgotten to mention anyone, I sincerely apologize!
